Monsanto Sucks!

I am watching a documentary called The Future of Food and it serves the purpose of pissing me off royally. It is discussing the state of agriculture and the role the government now plays in it. The gist is that the government is basically a paid bitch of Monsanto (a chemical company that shares a lot of its employees with the EPA, FDA, white house, etc) and we, The People, are the unpaid guinea pigs of the both of them. They have cornered the market in their quest to genetically alter all that is agriculture and patent what is life. In the constitution it clearly covered patent law and purposely excluded the patenting of life (ie plants, crops, agriculture), but where a politician or big business smells money there is no amount of law that can prevent its triumph. In thinking about the cause of my cyst I can't help but compare it easily to any other random disease or disorder that increasingly inflicts itself upon my generation. What is a cyst for me is diabetes for another, an aneurysm, lupus, a tumor, auto-immune deficiency; the list goes on and on. So, is it that I lacked the certain vitamins and nutrients based on my habits, is it that I can no longer get what I need from my food no matter how well I eat because big business is destroying the integrity of our food for mass production, or is it that the genetically altered 'life' they are cramming down our throats are taking on a whole new life of their own on the inside (was there any other outcome; it's not like they are messing with something stationary like a bicycle)? I suspect it's a little of all three. If that is the case, how can I escape this madness and protect my life against this? We, as The People, don't stand a chance in hell against the government and the power of power (read: money). I would like to think that this is a democracy and that the world can be made better because we want it to be made better, but the truth is the government has to want it to be better and set aside their own selfish and shallow ambitions. I guess I'd better go grow my own garden because hell will freeze over before that happens.

  1. You're right. It's all about the money. The big beer corporations do it too; trying to stomp out any and all competition by donating massive amounts of cash to politicians. It's sad, but not unexpected in a capitalist democracy. Churchill said that, "democracy is the worst form of government in the world, except for all the others." Corruption always finds a way to survive and breed.
