A light at the end of the tunnel...

After watching that documentary yesterday I was obviously peeved, but it occurred to me that I didn't mention any solutions. I want this blog to be a place where individuals can come to share productive information not somewhere where complaints and negativity breed. In light of this I wish to offer some great solutions that were mentioned in the documentary and in Kris Carr's Crazy, Sexy Diet. First, the good news is that Americans are coming out in droves to promote organic foods. This is great because it sends a clear message to the government that we don't want that crap they are trying to sell off as food. We want fresh food that feeds our body right and is better for the enviorment. We are all connected so it is super important to treat the air, the water, the agriculture, the animals, etc as if they were an appendage sticking out of our faces! If we treat it bad we will certainly get bitch slapped by it!

Another great thing that we can all do is join a CSA in our area. Community Supported Agriculture is a great way to offer assistance to your local farmers in exchange for a box full of dirt fresh, organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, legumes, nuts, eggs, dairy, and meat (if you're into that sort of thing!). Back in the day there wasn't a middle man between us and our food. Once we got a middleman (read: the government) I think we can all agree that things started going to shit. Let's back it up and get back to basics! My CSA farm is about 30 minutes away and I am signed up for the Spring crop. My cost (keep in mind it probably varies based on location) is $190 for the whole season for a half share (3-5 lbs. per week, feeds 1-2 persons adequately). The cool thing also is that I am able to go visit the farm whenever I want and pick stuff myself. I am planning to take my nephew there next year to pick fresh herbs and have a picnic. It is so exciting to me that I have the opportunity to share this world with a child. Maybe it will rub off.

Looking for a CSA in your area? Kris gave this fantastic website, which is where I found my CSA:

Go check this out pronto. Your organs will thank you..oh and so will Mother Nature...perhaps she will thank me with a cyst removal!
